Used and Wasted

(John McGie/Jon Lundquist)

USED AND WASTED

I drink away what’s left of me
With some martini milkshakes
In a hazy days glass
The things that I put in my life
Are the things I believe
When nothing else lasts

My world ‘s submerged in a dream
With a tonic or two
And sinking hi-balls
I meant to say “I love you”
I put a quarter on the counter
That I’ve saved for that call

Used and wasted
Falling apart at the seems
Patched and pasted
These long lost memories

Don’t think about no tomorrows
Don’t think about yesterday
Don’t think about what I’m doing
Without you here today

I take account of my life
Chewing on peanuts
Like my stale old lost dreams
You could have made me your wife
But you chose to paint that picture
With me not in the scene

I know what made you leave me
It wasn’t all my doing
But my doing didn’t help - no
I never meant to hurt you
I’m glad to hear you’re happy
With somebody else now
